Dollar Philadelphia International Airport
Philadelphia International Airport is located a short distance from the city centre of Philadelphia, and is one of the largest airports in the United States of America. It is the third largest hub for the airline company US Airways, a carrier responsible for many of the domestic flights between American airports, and is a hub as well for UPS Airlines. The airport has the official code of PHL. The facilities available for arriving passengers include car hire companies, such as Dollar Philadelphia International Airport, and several others. They all offer high quality vehicles and services which help to expedite the car rental process.
Passengers of Philadelphia Airport will arrive on the ground level of one of seven terminal buildings. Flights by US Airways usually arrive at Terminals B or C, flights of US Airways Express arrive at Terminal F and flights from international airports will leave their passengers at Terminal A-West. International flights do not include those from Canadian airports that have US-border preclearance facilities, such as Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Halifax. Terminal A-East, Terminal D and Terminal E are all domestic terminals at the airport, and receive flights from Virgin America, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, AirTran and many others. If a rented car has been arranged, passengers will need to go to Zone 2 outside of their terminal’s baggage reclaim area to find the car rental shuttles. Dollar operates free shuttle services for their customers, which are able to accommodate luggage items. The ride by bus will just take a few minutes.
At this rental location, Dollar is open twenty-four hours a day, from Monday to Sunday, and their vehicles may be hired online or over the rental counters. Although there are usually plenty of vehicles available, an advanced and online reservation is recommended. If additional items of equipment are required for your vehicle, such as child seats and satellite navigation systems, an advanced booking is preferable as well, as there is no guarantee that these items will be available upon your arrival at the rental counters. All persons in a vehicle driven in the United States are required by law to wear seatbelts. Although a GPS is certainly not a legal necessity, it is very useful to those who have never driven in Philadelphia before. The device will assist you with directions to any location, and will provide plenty of additional useful information as well. It may also be pre-programmed with points of interest and have a selection of languages.
Sometimes an advanced reservation may be required, for example, if the renter requires the use of Dollar hand controls. This device is fitted to certain vehicles with an automatic transmission, and controls the main functions of the vehicle, i.e. the accelerator and brake pedals. It does not operate any other function, such as the windshield wipers, cruise control or car lights. From the car rental companies at Philadelphia Airport hand controls are free of charge, but available only to persons with lower limb disabilities. Additional services are offered to individuals with mobility challenges as well, for example, someone who is unable to drive may still be the primary renter of the vehicle provided that he/she is accompanied by an able driver who has a valid driving license. This second-driver is free of charge.
The Philadelphia International Airport car hire companies offer vehicles of all variety, ranging from small and fuel-efficient to larger with a capacity for more than five passengers. Dollar’s smaller cars are often less expensive to hire, and are ideal for all driving occasions, provided that they offer sufficient space for the number of people who will be travelling. Sometimes they don’t have much room for luggage. Examples include the Chevrolet Aveo in the Economy category, the Ford Focus in the Compact category and the Dodge Avenger in the Midsize category. Larger vehicles from Dollar include the Ford Fusion, Ford Taurus and SUVs, similar to the Ford Escape, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, Chevrolet Traverse and Chevrolet Suburban. Minivans are ideal for up to seven passengers and five luggage items, and may be similar to the Dodge Grand Caravan.
Dollar also has a special category called the Lock Low & Go category, which customers could select if they would like a Compact or larger sized vehicle. The customer will not know which car they will be driving, as it will be selected by staff when the vehicle is collected, however, it is guaranteed to be great value for money as the customer will only pay Compact vehicle rates, regardless of the size of vehicle received. For example, a customer could drive a luxury SUV for the price of a Compact. Your vehicle will have five seatbelts and room for at least two luggage items.
Most vehicles may be arranged as a Dollar one way hire. This service allow a customer to collect their vehicle from Philadelphia Airport, but then return it to another location. Always confirm with Dollar to where the rented car may be driven, especially if travel outside of Pennsylvania is planned. Customers may also need special arrangements if the vehicle will taken out of the country. This is referred to as a cross-border rental. From Philadelphia Airport, one way hires and cross-border rentals may be more expensive than ordinary car hire arrangements.
