National Car Rental at Salt Lake City
National Salt Lake City Airport
Salt Lake City International Airport is recognized by its IATA code of SLC, and is found approximately five miles from the Central Business District of Salt Lake City, in the state of Utah. This American airport is one of the busiest in the country, as it handles around twenty million passengers per annum. It consists of two terminal buildings (five concourses) and four runways, of which one is used for general aviation. There are car hire companies at the airport as well, such as National Salt Lake City International Airport, offering a wide range of vehicles that may be rented by arriving passengers. Car rental rates at this location are reasonable, especially for certain car categories.
The airport’s terminals are referred to as Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Terminal 1 is home to all the airport’s carriers except for Delta Air Lines and SkyWest Airlines, and has two concourses named as A and B. Terminal 2 has three concourses, C, D and E. Certain gates in Concourse D are used for international flights. Passengers arriving in any of these concourses will find plenty of facilities at their disposal, and will also easily be able to reach the car hire companies without the need of any further form of transport. They are not located within the terminals, but on the lower level of the parking garage. National’s offices are open twenty-four hours a day, from Monday to Sunday. They are also open on public holidays, but always confirm their hours of operation on days such as Christmas Day and New Years Day.
Although many cars are available from National, and reservations can be made directly over the rental counters, passengers are advised to make an advanced online booking for the vehicle that they require. This ensures its availability, and could result in lower rental rates as well. The Salt Lake City International Airport car hire companies have additional items of equipment for rent, and these items are also best reserved in advance. Child seats can be hired for infants or young children, and a satellite navigation system is most useful for any traveller. National may have ski-equipped vehicles available as well for a small additional charge.
National’s hand control equipment for disabled drivers also require an advanced reservation, as they will need to be fitted to the correct type of vehicle prior to your arrival at the airport. A reservation of at least forty-eight hours notice is recommended. Hand controls are available for use by persons with a lower limb disability, as they operate the brake and accelerator pedals of certain automatic vehicles. From Salt Lake City Airport, hand controls will not incur extra charges. Many other services for persons with mobility challenges are free of charge as well, for example, a person unable to drive due to a disability may still be the primary renter of a vehicle, provided that he/she is accompanied by an able driver. The credit card of the disabled person will be used to pay for the rental, but the driving license of the accompanying driver will validate the rental contract. There are no charges for the second-driver in this case.
Whilst reserving a vehicle, specify if it will be a National one way hire, or if it will be returned to Salt Lake City International Airport. One way hires are available from most car categories, and are sometimes a convenient option, even though they may be more expensive than an ordinary rental. Under usual circumstances, always return your vehicle to the same parking garage area as from where it was collected at Salt Lake City Airport, in a reasonable condition. While vehicles are not expected to be thoroughly clean when they are returned, they should be not be overly ‘messy’. Vehicles should be returned with a full tank of fuel if the customer did not purchase fuel, but as empty as possible if fuel was purchased. Before the vehicle leaves the airport at the start of the rental it will be checked for existing damages, and upon its return, it will be checked again. Any new damages found will be the responsibility of the renter concerned.
The car categories available from many of the Salt Lake City International Airport car rental companies include Economy, Compact, Midsize, Standard, Fullsize, Premium, Luxury, Minivan and SUV. There are also several SUV categories available, under the names of Midsize, Standard, Hybrid, Fullsize, Premium, Luxury and Special. Examples of SUVs found in these categories are the Ford Escape, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, Lincoln Navigator and Hummer H3. Economy cars are similar to the Chevrolet Aveo, Compact cars are similar to the Nissan Versa and the Toyota Corolla is an example of a Midsize car. These three vehicles come with excellent rental rates, and are ideal for driving the Salt Lake City area. They are also light on fuel, which helps to save a few dollars. Their vehicle features may include air conditioning, two or four doors and AM/FM Stereo and CD players.
Further vehicles for hire from National include the Ford Fusion, Toyota Prius, Chevrolet Impala, Toyota Avalon, Cadillac DTS, Dodge Journey, GMC Acadia and the Ford Mustang, which is a convertible. If a car is required with a larger capacity for passengers the Dodge Grand Caravan or Toyota Sienna may be recommended, or one of the larger SUVs. National also has nice passenger vans for hire, similar to the Chevrolet Express, which can seat up to fifteen people. It has plenty of room for luggage as well. To hire a car from National, have your driving license and major credit card on hand, and ensure that you are over the age of 21.
