Salt Lake City Airport Arrivals (SLC)

Salt Lake City International Airport is one of the larger of American airports, and serves the city of Salt Lake, in the state of Utah. Approximately twenty million passengers pass through its terminals every year, and it is therefore the 21st busiest airport in the country for passenger traffic. The airport is recognised by its IATA code of SLC, and is a hub for several airline companies. Passengers on Salt Lake City International Airport arrival flights will find many useful facilities available, and will be able to travel into the city by various forms of ground transport. Rented cars are available as well, and shuttles even take many passengers to the famous ski resorts nearby.

Arriving passengers will find Salt Lake City International Airport northwest of downtown Salt Lake City, and nearby to Rose Park and Poplar Grove. It is also nearby to the Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management area and the Wingpointe Golf Course. In just fifteen minutes, the Salt Palace Convention Centre can be reached from the airport, as well as many of the popular downtown hotels. There are plenty of places of accommodation available throughout the city, and an array of tourist attractions, of which the ski resorts of the area are perhaps the biggest draw-card. Many passengers of the airport are therefore tourists coming to enjoy the spectacular areas that are found nearby. Some of the most famous golf courses in the world can be found here as well.

Passengers on arrival flights can easily travel into the city, or to the ski resorts nearby. There are public buses operated by UTA that leave every half an hour for the city centre, and many private shuttle companies that take passengers to all areas in the vicinity. A couple such as Alta Shuttle, All Resort Express, Canyon Transportation, Express Shuttle, Park City Transportation and Xpress 4 Less have counters in the arrival areas of the airport for the convenience of their customers. Private shuttle transport usually requires an advanced reservation. Taxis are also available, and are always considered as a quick and efficient form of transport. There are usually plenty of vehicles parked outside of the airport buildings, ready to serve passengers. A taxi to downtown Salt Lake City will cost between $20.00 and $25.00.

The transport authority of Salt Lake City is currently building an extension to their light rail system that will include the airport. By the year 2014 arriving passengers will be able to travel by train from the airport to downtown Salt Lake City. The journey will take approximately twenty minutes, and trains will be available every fifteen minutes. For now, however, only buses and taxis are available for ground transportation.

Another excellent way to travel in Utah is by rented car, from one of the Salt Lake City International Airport car hire companies, which include Avis, Hertz, Budget, National, Enterprise, Europcar, Alamo, Thrifty, Dollar and Easycar. Passengers will find the car rental companies on the lower level of the parking garage, which is within walking distance of the terminal buildings, and will be able to hire vehicles from a wide selection of car categories. There small and large cars available, as well as premium cars and convertibles. SUVs and minivans such as the Dodge Grand Caravan are popular as well. Salt Lake City is easy to navigate, with a good road network, and there are several parking options at convenient locations. Many of the main light rail stations are park and ride facilities as well.

The airport of SLC has two terminal buildings that consist of five concourses, namely, A, B, C, D and E. Terminal 1 has Concourses A and B, and will be the arrival point of passengers on the majority of the airport’s airline carriers, such as American Airlines, United Airlines, American Eagle, Southwest Airlines and United Express. Passengers arriving on flights by Delta Air Lines or SkyWest Airlines will arrive at Terminal 2, that holds the Concourses C, D and E. International arrivals and departures are handled at Concourse D. There are international flights available to Salt Lake City Airport from Mexico (Cancun and Puerto Vallarta), Canada (Vancouver) and Paris, in France. The airport is mainly significant for domestic flights from a wide range of other US cities. The busiest routes are flown from Atlanta, Denver, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas/Fort Worth, Seattle, Phoenix, Portland, New York and Minneapolis. Passengers can also take a direct flight from many other American cities, for example, Houston, Chicago, San Francisco, Oklahoma City, Colorado Springs, Charlotte and Memphis.

The arrival areas of Salt Lake City International Airport, and all parts of the airport in general, are well equipped with facilities for their passengers. They are also designed with the comfort of mobility challenged individuals in mind, as there are ramps, elevators and suitable restrooms available. Passengers who require assistance with arrival procedures should inform their airline company at the time of reservation. There are plenty of shops and restaurants at the airport, as well as other services, such as free Wi-Fi, banking and currency exchange options, direct telephones from where hotel reservations can be made, information desks, lost and found offices and mailboxes.

Passengers who have parked their vehicles at one of the airport parking lots can pay for their stay at the automated machines, or if they have used the E-Park service, by credit card as they leave the parking area.
